If you're sure the cable is good and the sub is set to "on" at the receiver, the next thing is to try adjusting the crossover to the highest setting, you may not be hearing anything because the crossover is set lower then what is being played back, also if you are useing a DVD player make sure the sub control is set to "on" on the player controls.
