Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: EPI T/E Monitor 1's -Any opinions?

The joke is that this series is a waste of both time and energy, but if you are used to the sound of the concave tweeter/ 8" woofer based, older models, then you will be disappointed.

I don't know the horn tweeter. It could be all right. However, the 6" and 10" drivers have that thin, clear, flexible plastic cone which is then damped by a surround which is glued from the edge of the basket all the way to the voice coil. So, when the foam rots, the whole back of the driver's cone becomes a gooey liquid. You should consider these speakers as an opportunity to audition different 6" and 10" drivers. If you are looking to develop your own high efficiency speakers, these speakers might be for you. However, I would adjust your price point to reflect the fact that you will have to replace the midrange and woofer.
