This is an easy one. In my 25 years in this hobby/obsession, this speaker remains for me a benchmark in execution. AudioMachina's Ultimate Monitor's comprise a first order series crossover in a 2-way, sealed box standmounted mini-monitor. I have never heard anything like them in terms of coherence, imaging and the kind of transparency that comes from the natural musicality inherent in this design. The box is a combination of aluminim baffle and carbon fiber and I can honestly say it is the finest enclosure I have ever seen. I dropped one onto the floor from 3 feet with no absolutely no evidence of damage to the finish or performance. This was not an easy buy for me and I fretted over the purchase until after a thorough break-in and swapping in Karl Schuemann's (the designer, who happens to me a mathematician/physicist) custom interconnects and speaker cables. Unfortunately, Karl has shifted his production resources to his 3-way floorstanding Pure System. I am very happy that I was able to get one of the last pairs of this design.
