what about giant bass horns ?

Things are diferant when upsized 1 large null easy to stay clear of its right in front of horn after arround 8ft or so from horn its gone. This room loading is better than mulpiple conventional subwoofers.I can have these giants hitting deep notes at massive SPL and nothing in my room sings alone with conventional subs these excite allsorts of nulls, peaks and if a peak is centered near something that can vibrate enofe to hear....Bass horns just dont do this and its great but as you know no free lunch, giant, need large rooms, much cost so.. Your back to 2-5 conventional subs but to me these arent close for music reproduction over the bass horn.Been building so many bass systems and I use a conventional sub with my mains. So I would agree with you if we discount large horn system and my 31in fostex OB sub which had a simlar large null.
