You state the speakers are 1975 vintage? I doubt the tweeter is
operational. Put your ear directly up the speaker, move your head left and right. You will hear the woofer panel AND the tweeter panel if all is ok.The wire is aluminum and probably oxidized, failed and the tweeter panel has an open circuit.
