Shielded speakers are intended for use when the drivers are close to a typical CRT tv. the shielding stops the distortion of the picture. It is not standard to include the shielding in all drivers as the cost of the driver is increased substantially....and it DOES have a miniscual effect on the sound...in that it increases the "damping" of the "drievr" ..again miniscually...
