I tried the battery pack once and preferred using ac power. I thought the battery pack diminished dynamics. The ESP/950 is a bargain if you can find it for $500 or less. Has a different "flavor" than Senn 600/650 and Grado's. It's very sensitive to interconnect cables. Differences in cables can radically change the sound! Also,with source components like cd/dvd players you can easily hear the differences! I have my eye on the new Stax 3050II.
