You wont get much on this forum when you ask about Proac. You happened to name my two favorite speaker brands-- Proac and Totem. My fave totems are the Model ones and the Arros in smaller rooms are awesome. Havent heard the Hawk or Forest-- but Own Proac Response 2.5's and have owned Proac 1.5's (the predecessor to the D15).
Proac to me combines a Spendor with a Totem-- if that's possible! It sounds like a British monitor with bass and punch and speed. Not as fast as Arros and maybe the Mids dont have the nth degree of presence like well set-up Model Ones-- but the mids on the Proacs are phenomenal and sound like what you feed them. If anything, I think the proacs have less of a "sound" than Totems. They seem to sound very different depending on amp/wires etc-- more so than the Totems I had. In fact-- if you ask for an opinion on the Response 2.5-- many agree it's a great speaker-- but some will say it's warm-- some will say it's bright-- some will say they love tubes etc. etc. etc.
Totems sound more like themselves when you change gear-- if that makes any sense at all. Dont get me wrong-- I LOVE that sound-- fast, punchy, terrific imaging etc.. but seems to me the Proacs are more like what youwant them to be than they are about a particular sound.Hu
