Isolation means separating two things; decoupling them; minimizing the interaction between the two; in your words, "prevent speaker vibrations from being transmitted into the floor." Isolation is most commonly implemented via compliant materials.Coupling is the opposite of isolating. Sometimes people describe this as 'sinking' or 'draining', however, those terms can be misleading (they're neither entirely correct nor entirely incorrect). Coupling is most commonly implemented via rigid materials such as spikes or cones.
Since, particualry with respect to the vertical, you can have neither perfect coupling nor perfect isolation, it is important to understand the virtues of both in any attempt at vibration management (of course, countless folks have found good results by trial and error, but these folks can seldom explain why they got good results). Full books can be written on this topic.
