I owned a pair from 1980 to 1985. Started off with a Sansui AU-217 II and the Yammies were probably too much speaker for the integrated, but I still loved the sound. Upgraded to a valve preamp and a solid state power amp around 50 watts - significant improvement. Then a hybrid preamp with a Metaxas 100w class A power amp. Tremendous drive and control over that big old 12" paper cone, but smooth and precise with the beryllium mids and tweeters.I sold the speakers for what I paid for them as I had to move to another state (bought Celestion SL6) but I missed those Yammies. They were magical in a really big room and could take a ton of punishment.
I doubt that you could damage them with normal use. They can handle power. I remember them fondly to this day.
Having owned the Yammies while I upgraded turntables (Dual -> Thorens TD160 -> Linn LP12) and a couple of series of amps, the sound I was getting at the end was miles ahead of the sound when I started. They are really fine speakers and are very revealing of the source and amp. Give them the best - and they'll give you their best.
Good luck. I miss the old NS1000s.
Regards,
Geoff
