I gave up a loooong time ago and found that action speaks louder than words.
Keep in mind a good portion of the population has no idea what 'hi-fi' sound is. Other than an occasional visit to the disco, Circuit City, or even the neighbor's booming car stereo, how would they base a foundation or baseline?
But then again, some people are convinced that the best sounding 'boom and sizzle' speaker is the best speaker to have...
