People tend to forget that the room their system/speakers are in is THE biggest and most influential component of their system.
Even the "Best" speaker out there will sound like @#$% when placed in a room that is a sonic disaster and is awash in reverberant room noise. One just needs to attend one of the high end electronics shows to hear this first hand.
Properly treat the acoustics in your listening room first and then ask yourself the same question again.
By the way, the reason your headphones sound SO much better is U have completely eliminated the listening room and it's sonic influence it has on your speakers.
