Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Does this pass the smell test?

Greetings all,

I've got an extra pair of base drivers from Alon 1. I'm thinking of using them to make subwoofers to assist my Alon 1 speakers. I'm thinking of using a Linn majik to power the Alons and a Linn lk2 to power the sub. I've only been looking into this for a short time and I want to see if what I've put together so far makes sense. I've slapped this together based on what I have to work with and a couple recs from Carl and Nola, formerly known as Alon. I've also got a couple of quick quesitons.

Vb=1cubic ft or 28.3 L
Vas=75l
Fs=30Hz
Qts=.5
Qtc=.81
F3=43 i.e. the -3db is 43 Hz

Also, I'd like to ease the burden of the majik and filter out some of the lower freqs it sends to the Alons. Are there any good resources for DIY active crossovers or any other recommendations? I'm not sure if I'm using the proper terms, but by active I mean after the preamp and before the power amp. Is there a better way to go? I took some circuit theory courses but that was a while ago. I'll definitely need a little help from somewhere.

Finally, I'm also considering making a pair of GR Research AV3Ss. They have a -3db of 55hz. Would this sub system make sense for them as well?

Thanks for your help!

Nate
