Re: Floorstanding Speaker near wall... Maybe not Vandersteen 5A.

I'm a big fan of Vandersteen speakers. However, the best I've heard from them has been when placed well out into the room - 5-6' minimum and more can be better. One of the best features of the Vandy design is their ability to disappear sonically when placed properly. While bass tuning in the Quatro and 5 may adjust for close proximity to the wall, I would be concerned about losing a major benefit of their design, spatiality and imaging.

Unfortunately, I think more research will be needed to find a speaker designed specifically for placement near the front wall. The Snell Type A comes to mind but may be difficult to find. The AN speakers already mentioned were influenced by Snell designs from what I've read. Believe some Linn and NAIM speakers are intended for close wall placement. Hopefully other Inmates will offer more options.
