Building stacked advent cabinets

Hi I'm about to build some cabinets for 2 pair of The New Advent loudspeakers because the utility cabinets are just so darn ugly. So I thought might as well build them stacked in one cabinet. The issue I am wondering about was how to keep the height down to 48". They would be 52" normally. Removing 1 of the 2 sections that would have normally been meeting in the middle gains .75". . Also can I gain the rest of the space needed to keep them at same cu. ft. total while only standing 48" by deepening or widening the boxes. Looks like .25 inches deeper would make the difference. In simpler terms would slight changes in dimension size cause problems as long as the air space inside stays the same? I'm building them 2 layer (mdf and plywood veneer) and really saves money to keep it under 48". If anyone has thoughts on this subject I would appreciate it!
