I actually work for Magnolia, and I have found that the Bachs are much better without a subwoofer. If you only have a stereo setup, the Bachs are better for you. If you are able to attach a Rel sub, the Mozarts are going to have a much better range and much more full sound. To my ear, the Mozarts give a much larger sound stage with much more accurate tones when played with a Rel Q sub. And you are also quite right about the Magnolia store not always having the best setup. If you want to hear the best sound on the VA speakers, ask for the Denon 397 Stereo receiver.
