Ionic Purifiers do a pretty poor job of actually trapping particulates because they move such a low volume of air. The ozone produced does give the air a fresh scent, but it is not good to breath and is highly corrosive. I would be particularly concerned with plastic and rubber compounds, which means speaker cones and surrounds (particularly the surrounds) and phono cartridge suspension parts.

If you must use them, keep them as far from the system as possible. Because ozone is so highly reactive (quickly converts to regular O2 oxygent), it does quite quickly dissipate.
