The VR 4 JR is a step up from the VR 2 for sure.
I have never had the SR in my home, so I can't comment on it.
The VR 4 JR's have a more "atmospheric" sound then the VR 2, meaning they image better, and are more transparent, w/o being bright.There is also less coloration because it is a 2 piece design, like the Wilson Watt Puppy, or a B&W 801.
