No fundamental change in design of quality drivers and enclosures. Of course, little has changed in the past 25 years either.Massive adoption of electronic tailoring of quality speakers to the environment like the Polk Audio Lc265i-IP (and others) will be the biggest area of improvement. After all, no greater impact on quality sound than is the environment itself. No matter what you spend on equipment, how golden are you ears, or how magical your room for audio response, the idea that each user/family can adjust the response to their own tastes makes it the best improvement possible. Purists will argue!
We will cycle through our current focus on MP3 and FM audio garbage and at some point get back to quality audio. When?
