Re: Advent3 and KLM model 32 stacking????

With all due respect, many fairly knowledgable people post on these forums and, by and large, most are willing to offer good advice when confronted with real problems. However, just by accident, you have managed to ask a difficult question. First, to my knowledge, there is no HK 880 Vxi amp. There is an HK 880 Vxi receiver though, and I will assume that's what you're talking about. Now I personally don't know that receiver but I'm going to guess that it was made in the mid to late 1970's. The reason why I'm guessing that is because there were other receivers, the 330, the 430 and the like which were made in the 1970's. In the mid '80's, the receivers had aluminum faceplates and had notations like 'High Current Capability' right on the faceplate. If you had one of those your question would be moot.

I don't know what an Advent3 speaker is. To my knowledge, there is no such speaker model. Ordinarily, that wouldn't matter if all of Advent's product line were 8 ohms. Unfortunately, the Smaller Advent speakers are 4 ohms. So, I can't say with any authority whether you could parallel your Advents with the other pair of speakers. Finally, as to the other pair of speakers, I think you mean KLH model 32 speakers, not KLM speakers. It probably seems silly to you, but in fact it is exasperating to me and perhaps others. First off, it is exasperating because I don't know everything about audio. So when someone like you mentions a model of amp or speaker that I don't know, I will research it to make sure I know what I'm talking about. However, when you mention three different pieces and I discover that all three are incorrectly cited, it makes it very difficult for me to answer you with any authority. It's hard for me to help you, so I wind up not responding at all. I'm pretty sure folks here can help you, though I think you'll have better luck in the Vintage Asylum, but it probably is important that you cite the equipment correctly.

Having said that.... I think that when a switch on the back says 8 ohms or 6 ohms, it means that there are current limitations in the output section of the power amplifier section. Ordinarily, one would see a switch marked 8 ohms or 4 ohms. I would trust the manufacturer and not put the Advents in parallel with the KLH speakers.

As to the KLH woofer surrounds. DO NOT put vaseline on the surrounds. You could try a thin coating of Silicon RTV or you could use a product from Tandy Leather Co. in Texas called 'Leather Weld'. Either product will seal the surround. I hope that answers your questions and you will continue to post here. Hopefully I haven't beaten you up too badly.
