Boomy bass is often caused by nodal waves at a certain distance from the speakers at a specific frequency. This can sometimes be cured by moving the listening chair forward or back or by room treatment.

If you have a test track with tones, play it and identify the point where the bass gets boomy. Experiment with moving forward or backward from the current listening point where it sounds boomy. Just walking around the room you will be able to hear the bass increase and decrease as you walk in and out of the standing waves.

Of course finding a listening position that gets rid of the nodal wave and is also still the best for the rest of the sound can be tricky. Changing speakers may not cure the problem.
