Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

yes

Well, I did refoam a pair of early ADS 400. They have the cloth grills and the brAun style logos. I used generic 6" woofer foam from matelectronics. Probably not an exact fit but close enough. Did it years ago and still in good shape. The most difficult part was keeping the voice coil from rubbing. The gap is very small. I glued the outside of the foam to the frame first, then when that was dry I glued the inner edge of the foam to the cone, going slowly and working it back and forth to make sure the coil wasn't rubbing. I wasn't concerned if it wasn't visually perfectly centered, as long as it worked ok.
You can buy generic 6" woofer foams (They call them "Foam Edge" FER-6)for 90 cents each, less if you buy 10 or more. They have a 25 dollar minimum order, but they have lots of parts and supplies to stock up on.
good luck
