Original type speaker adhesives

Hello all,

I am in the process of (attempting) to restore an old pair of RCA dirvers.

I have spent my last to evenings reading every post I could find, with the word 'glue' or 'repair' in them, but was unable to find my answer. (Although, I was amused).

Does anybody know what kind of glue, the shiny black glue, that was used extensively to glue voice coil wires to the cone is?

I could use any kind of glue there and then paint it black. Probably w/o any issues. But my speakers have a 'damping ring' and 'deflectors', which are glued on with the same glue.

While I don't imagine a different adhesive would matter, aesthetics are a concern for me, as well as keeping the original sound. Sound is more important, but anything that doesn't hurt performance and helps aesthetically would be really good, as I don't plan to use my original enclosures and would like a removable grill.

Thanks, Eric
