Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Ordinary?

I thought bragging about time coherence WAS ordinary these days.

Do you remember the old Dahlquist DQ-10s? I remember advertisements about how the drivers were specially aligned for time coherence. If those speakers were so "aligned" then why did they sound so disjointed as a whole? I think the DQ-10s are a good (although extreme) example of why you shouldn't design around one specific parameter. With the DQ-10s, you can hear each driver speaking individually and very little musical coherence. Time alignment? Then why the destinct separation of sound?

Lots of water under THAT bridge . . . .

This is actually a good thread. It makes you stop and think.
