As Larry said, there will be a tendency for the floor to act like a drum head or, more accurately, like the sounding board of a stringed instrument. It will become a radiating surface.Carpeting or rugs will help damp those vibrations. Products like the Sub-dude or Symposium shelves will help isolate the speakers from the floor. The isolation products will be more effective but you may want to try carpeting or rugs as well, even if for no other reason than reducing the amount of higher frequency reflection in the room.
There's a lot of DIY options for isolation including your own Symposium clones or other DIY constrained layer platforms, and inner tubes under an mdf base to provide an air platform. A sand tray under the speakers may work also but you may not want to have a 'moat' of exposed sand surrounding each speaker.
