A friend, believe it or not, actually placed two large phone books
(yellowpages) underneath his. (Wrapped them to make them look O.K).
the actually sound great. The spikes are used with protectors under
them so as to not start gradually sinking into the phone book. This may work in part due to being on the first floor of house with concrete slab which is my setup too.
