That dome IS the tweeter driven element. Its' shape affects high frequency dispersion throughout the room. It may seem to sound OK because one mfg (EPI) used an inverted-dome tweeter, or perhaps your personnal hearing does not go so high as to detect the damage. Almost certainly it will not measure as before. If it were a fabric dome you could suck it back out via your mouth, but metal will surely leave crease marks that alter high frequency resonance (inverted or not). No recourse but to replace. Stop trying to impress others & use your protective grill covers except when YOU are critically listening. The grill covers will not seriously affect sound during partys & protect speakers.
