What you want to do is a get a test tone cd and run
test tones
Im assuming you dont have a sinewave generator
I believe you can download Audacity for free from the internet
and plug your pc/laptop into your preamp and run sine wave tests

Try running pure acoustic classical piano through it and see
if you can replicate the issue
