Interesting. I've been in this hobby for slightly more than a decade and I got the opposite experience. I've always loved standmounts in my little apartment because floorstanders sound boomy there. But ever since I moved to a larger place a few years ago, it has been the complete opposite experience. Not even adding a pair of subs can solve my craving for bass weight and power so I ended up craving for floorstanders instead. Now given the superior bandwidth, dynamics and sensitivity of floorstanders (admittedly usually at the expense of imaging) - I doubt if I can ever go back to small speakers again except for small rooms.
