Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

So what have you learned?

Some like and dislike speaker brand enter here ______________.

Why did you just pick a price range and only look there? WHile i like the 802 best of their Nauitlus line other than than the Model Nautilus(but this is probably part of the prestige line.

I have heard all but the merlins and you would have a tough choice with those remaining. Each brings a certain lilt to their respective presentations. I too am not overly thrilled with the bass integration of the ML's but they also have a holographic like presentation the other two don't touch. I personally prefer a more dynamic integrated sound than the panels...but some love em and maybe you are in thaat camp - they would be on my list too...but probably not make my final choice.

SF to me is overpriced. No offense they sound really good and all but just fail to excite me sonically but they use great qualty parts etc. Of the three I would take the B&W for my taste. I realize B&W is the less popular brand because they are the bigger name and we like to topple the giant but it is a great speaker.

I will suggest Audio Note's E speakers - and higher senstive speakers in general. I find them to be more expressive and far better in the dynamics department. I was wholly impressed by the E/Sec which I would take easily over the three you mention. But it is also 20K US. However, they have less expensive E models which use the same box but the internal wiring uses a lesser silver wire and different magnets. But if they are pretty close to the same sound as the E /Sec you might find a few bucks saved and a terrific sounding product. Check the reviews here and elsewhere and go listen. Even the $2700.000US E/D will have more bass than the 802 which was the champ on your list. They look like nothing compared to the lookers on your list - but looks are often shallow.

I know "not another recommendation" but the more you hear the more informed you are.
