The reason that I asked, and the thought was hit on in a couple of posts, is that with certain loudspeakers comes an almost given amount of owner dedication. Merlins, Avantgarde duo's, etc are IMO heavily dependant on associated equipment. Granted when they sound good, they sound really good! And while I think any loudspeaker benefits from good electronics, some speakers such as the Vandy's, and even my Tannoy's are just a little less system dependant and in turn a little more easily matched. It really depends on you, and how far you are willing to go in both time and expense. At 4 to 6K there are a lot of good loudspeakers, all ranging in personality.
