I had similar experience with the Merlins. Very impressive at first but over time the relentless in-your-face detail became fatiguing. Do great audiophile things but to my ears do not sound musically natural. They have legions of devotees who will claim the problem is with your system, not the speakers. So if you go with Merlins, be sure you have associated equipment that is approved for these speakers. The company owners is also very helpful but he too will blame the owner or their setup if they don't fall in line with praise for his speakers.
