I completely agree. The VSM are "garbage in - garbage out" if you don't feed them with a good signal, they won't sound good.SF's with "average" electronics will sound more palatable than the Merlins, and certainly very enjoyable, but you don't know how much information are you losing until you don't compare both speakers. I owned the Amatis for more than one year, and I know first hand how colored and untruthful they sound, but yes, very musical and if my new room had matched the Amatis as well as my old room did, perhaps I hadn't traded the SF's for the VSM. Or perhaps yes, who knows!
