I listened to Thiel many years ago - when dealers here in BC used to actually carry them - and I had two complaints then one was a fatiguing treble response and driver integration. I can't comment on the new ones but from the reading between the lines of certain reviews driver integration still looks like a problem. You would have to sit far back for the midrange to be of ONE coherent sound as the tweeter is a 3 feet by the looks of it away from the woofers...so definitely not a nearfield speaker. It also seems from the reviews that they are neither dynamically powerful or can play very loud - so the question is why not go with a planar or stat if you want light strings or some other speaker if your tastes run to the all-rounder variety.
Again I don't want to knock the newer speakers because many people love them...when someone here carries them again I'll give em a listen.
