Noticed from your lower post that you have monitor audio silver 8i speaks. Your gear probably isn't contributing to the harshness in the sound, the silver series tend to sound that way unless in overdamped rooms with warm and possibly rolled off gear.Take a look at the MA gold reference 20s. I know they are metal drivers, but they are much more refined sounding than the silver series and they are not bright. I own a pair of silver 3i and a pair of gold ref. 10s. The 10s don't have the etched, bright, and sometimes harsh topend of the silver series. They mantain a lot of the good monitor audio traits such as the fast punchy midrange and bass, and they are also pretty revealing speakers.
Don't dismiss speakers just because of what material the drivers are made of though, there is much more to a speaker than just the driver type.
