Well for you mid-fi critics here's the scoop: aside from Pioneer, Sony (TAD), Onkyo (anyone remember the Grand Integra horn speakers from 1986?), Japanese market filled with more variety of high end Japanese brand name audio than what you would expect to see in Cixcuit Cxxy.

HOw abot a brand-spanking new JBL 4348 for 7K USD (approx.) each? An Accuphase C-2800 for approx 10k USD each? or my fave: JBL S-9800 for approx 22K USD a pair?

Remember: The mass market is extremely fierce when it comes to competition: more importantly, a market filled with mostly mid-fi masses who wants the most bang for the buck while disregarding quality and reliability as their main purchase consideration will definitely be fed with Mainland Chinese build Sonys, or Indonesian-built Toshibas.

At least I'm glad that all major Japanese exotic brand name still offer their great, cost-no-object products in Japan. More importantly: audio art in Japan is alive and well....

Enough ranting already( I know some may disagree so I would put on the usual YMMV)
