Yeah..I still find it interesting that Bill Champlin ended up in Chicago. The Sons were my favorites for years. Still GREAT road trip music! Great vocalists, great mix of instruments, an AMAZING guitarist in Terry Haggerty. I remember seeing them and Chicago back-to-back at San Diego State, outdoors, in 1969. They absolutely BLEW Chicago away. Better horns, better songs, all around just a night-and-day contrast. I saw them a few years later at the old Golden Bear in Huntington Beach on a dual bill with the Gap Band, who were pretty hot at the time. Bill Champlin flat out-souled the lead singer of the Gap Band--I watched the guy offstage with his mouth open watching Bill do his thing.

The Sons of Champlin were far and away the best band from the San Franciso Golden Era who never made it big. I'm glad that Bill Champlin finally found a way to get his talent out there AND make a living.
