My take on Buddy the Cat

This CD has a few moments of the old Ry Cooder sound of the early 70's, but the entire CD, as LWR put it IS quite fabl-ey - a sort of fun project for Cooder.

I think it's an interesting listen, as Ry is always doing something interesting and different - however, I find the work as a whole difficult to listen to in its entirety. I'll probably only play this one a few times. I'm somewhat disappointed, especially in comparison to the early 70's material (Boomer Story, Purple Valley, Chicken Music, Paradise Lunch), and the more recent collaborative releases of Chavez Ravine, Talking Timbuktu, Buena Vista, Hollow Bamboo, Mambo Sinuendo. I hope Ry returns to form on his next release.
