Back in the olden days before the Soviet invasion the proprietor of the establishment we were staying in in Kandahar, Afghanistan came by to inquire if we'd like to see a hashish presser at work. We took a short walk over to anonymous side building and the moment he opened the door the smell alone was enough to cause one to "remember precious things lost". It was an educational afternoon.
Before the Soviets, before the Taliban, Kandahar was considered the garden spot of Afghanistan. I still remember the huge piles of pomegranates in the market.Enjoyed your post.
