years, bought it at the same time as Uncle Tupelo's "Anodyne" and "89/93 An Anthology," as well as a Son Volt cd.
Kind of overkill as I listened to them all for several weeks and then returned quite a bit to the UT stuff, just to keep a bit of chronology.
I appreciated the musicianship but, frankly, the song writing and music wasn't inventive enough. I actually liked the Son Volt the most.
Finally, a couple of weeks ago, I pulled out "Being There" and really started listening.
An explosion went off in my head.
Damn, Jeff Tweedy is one seriously inventive guy, musically.
Unlike UT or SV, Wilco, at least on BT is extraordinarily inventive: it's music like I've never heard before, full of unexpected melodies, time changes, and quiet moments which descend like dusk.
I expected this kind of stuff from Jay but Jeff??? His mentor, according to him, was Jay but now we have the acolyte surpassing his master.
I'm going after more Wilco, and soon!
Now, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy SV, of course, but Wilco is doing something which no other band is. That's remarkable, especially these days.
