On a lark, I picked up YAI's new album, "Convicts." I'd never heard of these guys before I read a review in TAS, but, man, they are AWESOME. I'm a sucker for hooky power pop--some of my favorites are Badfinger, Big Star, Cheap Trick, and the Raspberries--and these guys deliver the goods. Apparently, they're legends in their native Australia, but haven't made a dent here. They probably never will, as their style of music is way out of fashion, but if you like first-class, guitar-driven pop, check this band out. I was so impressed, I ordered the rest of their albums, most of which are unfortunately only available as pricey Australian imports. :(
