I think the big deal with vinyl is the presence and space. There is usually a flatter sound to CD, and vinyl has a warmer and more "there" feel to it. It is all subjective, and often I feel the same way about CD's as you because dealing with the imperfections of vinyl gets tiresome after a while, particularly used vinyl. CD is nice because it is much more robust and does not have the surface noise (although I don't mind a little noise).
