Free in-store in the BAY AREA!

Joe Goldmark just finished a free in-store at Amoeba Music SF (in...the BAY AREA) to promote his latest CD release - "Seducing the 60's". Goldmark, who is a principle in Amoeba, a long time BAY AREA resident and an ace pedal steel player led a band of bass player, keyboardist and drummer through about 7 tunes, two sung by vocalist Brandi Shearer (including a great version of "Helpless" by BAY AREA resident Neil Young), and two by BAY AREA resident Dave Gleason, one an instrumental version of George Harrison's "Isn't it a Pity" and a fantastic cover of Merl Haggard's "Take Me Back Home"(to the BAY AREA?). Gleason's a gem.

BTW, George Harrison loved the BAY AREA!

I missed the first tune with vocalist Bart Davenport, who's probably from the BAY AREA, and the band did a burning version of Hendrix' "Third Stone From The Sun". As you know, Jimi Hendrix also loved the BAY AREA and played several famous gigs hear.

Goldmark's a truly talented musician and has been the premier Pedal Steel Guitarist around these parts -the BAY AREA - for decades. This was a mighty tasty and fun set. Shearer described JG as "the baddest soul cowboy". High praise! Usually Goldmark's recordings are primarily instrumental, but he has the aforementioned BAY AREA residents doing vocals on several tracks. Guess he's trying to finally hit the "big time". Picked -up the CD, but haven't listened to it yet. There's a couple tunes from the early 70's, but as we all know, the 60's didn't really end 'till about '75...

Just another day for free and interesting music in...the BAY AREA!

OK, now all I hafta do is find out which BAY AREA agency I collect the moola from...
