Home Rocky Road

From Classic Rock to Progessive to hip hop to today's hot new tunes!

Would anyone argue we're in a Golden Age?

I don't feel all musical eras are equally talent-laden and, from listening intently to lots of new stuff, I think it's falling off both in quality and quantity compared to past years.
Yes, there are many, many bands and performers with "good" songs but, like those of five years ago, they'll be forgotten by next year, too.
I can just see guys responding with hundreds of bands and artists I haven't heard of and pretty much no one else has, either. Why? Because they appeal to a teenie segment of listeners unlike, say, a Santana, Sex Pistols, or... Galaxie 500.
The medium seems to be close to exhaustion. When one hears a new band, for instance, notice how it's easy to say, "Hmmm, sounds like a Crazy Horse/VU/Lucinda Williams mix (I know, no one could).
