I have noticed this as well.... with other albums even...

I noticed it on BIA SACD vs LP, and most recently on Alan Parson Turn of a Freindly Card DVD-A vs LP and Peter Gabriels So album SACD vs LP. In A-B comparisons on my system with meter matched volume levels I cannot tell which is which until the surface noise of the LP (or lack thereof) gives it away.

I have done this in the past as well, even A-Bing modern Redbook to LP. Often, I cant readily hear a difference, or the difference is so small it seems to not matter. When thee is a discernable differnce, I have to try to decide which is better, which is even more difficult than hearing it in the first place.

I always find myself questioning what others write with respect to digital vs LP differences. How LP verions seem to "blow away" the digital. How there is "no comparison", how "digital sucks". In my own A-B testing I seldom get to this kind of conclusion. If there are differences that can be detected, they are subtle at best, and even then, I sometimes can't decide which is better. From what many of these people write, there seems to be more sonic disparity between different LP pressing runs than I hear between a lot of LP/CD comparisons.

In my opinion the mastering is the key. If both LP and CD are mastered properly, both will sound good. The storage medium is much furthter down the sonic ladder with respect to sound quality.
