I'm just back from Joanna Newsom at the Tivoli, everyone's favourite venue and JN had it just about sold out although its hard to be sure with a seated event as they sell an amount of standing tickets as well, but close enough.
She operates at the intersection of Bjork and Lisa Simpson and wore the most out of place extremely high heels in which she could barely walk.Completely solo with just her harp is a big ask for a singer but she carried it off in fine style, chatting and joking and even trying to get the air con turned down as the front row was freezing, although she was hot and her harp was a tuning nightmare (its about 28C and 70% humidity out tonight so in the theatre with all the people was not conducive to a well tuned string instrument.
She seems to have tapped into that ages old spring that has fed so much great music.
I would recommend anyone to go and see her.
I would also love to see her with a band.
