Home Rocky Road

From Classic Rock to Progessive to hip hop to today's hot new tunes!

Well, you sure told me off, didn't ya! LOL! Feel better now?

>>> "...yr strongly held opinions..." <<<

Strongly held INFORMED opinions, and let's be clear on this, omitting two vowels isn't an intelligent use of shorthand and doesn't make your opinions any better informed or humble.

>>> "But then it's typical of the mentality of those who make people who criticize politicians look foolish by virtue of juvenile, insulting nicknames." <<<

Hey, if that smelly shoe fits ya then maybe you should wear it awhile, but innuendos sans context aren't suited to this board; I'll be glad to meet you Outside to discuss politics if that's your wish, but you should be warned, it's rough over there and I'm fresh out of no-more-tears formula for you.

>>> "If you wish to believe that Dick Dale was 'no more talented or innovative' than Schenker, that is yr right & privilege, as it would be to believe the moon is made of green cheese." <<<

Tell that to Wallace and Gromit after you find those missing vowels you keep dropping (they've been to the moon and found the cheese -grin). BTW, I'll wager here and now that Michael Schenker has influenced more contemporary rock guitarists than Dick Dale, and that isn't meant as an insult to Dick Dale's talent or accomplishments even though he fits nicely into the one-hit wonder category. Yes, it is quite a hit, but let's get real here. How many of Dick Dale's other tunes would rock fans readily identify?

>>> "Unless you're willing to dismiss the influence of Dale's innovations on Jimi Hendrix. Are you now going to try to tell us that Hendrix was mentored by Schenker also?" <<<

Now you're just being silly. Of course Jimi was influenced by a lot of fine musicians who came before him as are most musicians, but while I wouldn't dismiss Dale's influence on Hendrix I can't credit his innovations that strongly either. Hendrix drew on a variety of sources including his own innovations for his stage personae and musicianship. And FYI, Schenker couldn't have mentored Hendrix as Michael was just 19 when he joined UFO in 1974; Hendrix died 3 1/2 years earlier, but you already knew that (I would hope), didn't you?

>>> "Or maybe you just don't think that's all that relevant, but that goes hand in hand with how little you seem to have heard, if you find Schenker to be as great as you do." <<<

You haven't a clue as to the extent of my music knowledge and how I've arrived at my assessments, but you're quick to dismiss my informed opinions as if your own conclusions make you an armchair music expert and shouldn't be questioned. Conversely, from my perspective, you're about as informed on the topic of popular musicians and their place in history as Spade Cooley was about the best way to balance his marriage, investments and fiddle playing career. Note: After seeing the YouTube link I suggest you do a bit more research; you might even learn something. ;^)

Enjoy,
AuPh
