Good, quality metal/hard rock WAS and IS the BEST 'release' and 'joy' next to sex or having your first child. There were/are BAD, cheesy hard rock bands (Warrant, Trixter, Limp Bizkit, Korn, etc.) and GREAT hard rock bands (Yngwie Malmsteen, Blackmore's Rainbow, MSG Michael Schenker Group, The Scorpions, Black Sabbath, Rush, Symphony X, etc.). Of course, having a full-fledged, high end, powerful and accurate stereo system helps one to 'feel' and experience the music better (without turning it up to the point of deafness). iPODs sound small and canned compared to (in my case) McIntosh amps/preamps, Magneplanar 3.6 speakers, Velodyne subwoofer, etc. Hard rock is meant to be cranked on a 'killer system' DUDE!!!
