Home Rocky Road

From Classic Rock to Progessive to hip hop to today's hot new tunes!

Not that one, but I have an extensive collection of Michael Schenker era UFO albums, including many obscure titles.

Having caught them on their first US tour with Schenker openning for Jethro Tull I'm a devoted UFO/Schenker fan. Allow me to recommend the absolute BEST album of vintage Schenker live material, IF you can find it (see image above).

The cover isn't much to look at, but for my money this IS hands down the absolute BEST live album from UFO covering '74 - '78 Schenker era with and without the various keyboard/rhythm guitar line-ups! Also, this album has the greatest version of Rock Bottom & other excellent Schenker era live performances.

In places the sound may not quite be as slick as the digitally remastered Strangers In the Night album (culled from Schenker's last 70's vintage tour), but the warts and all performances sound much better overall to my ears, and Schenker is in fine form throughout. Note: On a couple of numbers halfway through this CD there's a brief bit of mic feedback buzz, but it's negligable; these were all professionally taped for various radio programs and officially released by the BBC.

The song snippets don't do this material justice (it's superb on the CD), but you may be able to glean some idea of how good this material is from the samples provided. Unfortunately, this title appears to be OOP now and only available on the collectors market, but better prices might be found on ebay or elsewhere than as offered by the Amazon vendor.

Cheers,
AuPh
