If there weren't any clouds or fog, from clearings on the UC Santa Cruz campus, you could see the Monterey Bay.
35 years ago, during the weekend before finals, we caught the sunset. Then we prepared for a casual dance.
My friend Chandra liked to tap me as a wingman. With me around, she could tell right away, if a guy was gay. I could point out which guys to ignore, which were trouble.
The DJ played Digital Underground's "The Humpty Dance." This song was about (a) setting aside prejudices, and (b) getting it on. One of the kind of wussy Hispanic guys from my Catholic group was at the dance. Navigating the crowd, I let him and Chandra gravitate towards each other. They left the dance together, and I wasn't about to say a word, or ask any questions :-)
Like other Digital Underground material, "The Humpty Dance" provided an alternative to gangsta rap. Tuyet's roommate would say that "The Humpty Dance" made it seem not just okay, but supremely beneficial, to have a f-- buddy.
